One man is dead and another has been seriously injured in a double shooting in Sydney's south-west overnight.

Residents living around Bardo Circuit in Revesby say it is not the first time the home has been targeted and they have been living in fear for some time.

There are unconfirmed reports the house is connected to the Brothers for Life gang.

A number of shots were heard around 12:30am (AEDT) and paramedics found two men in the garage.

Neighbours who did not want to be identified told the ABC that the drama was like a movie scene.

They say there were so many shots fired that initial panic turned to relief when they thought it must be fireworks.

One woman says it took local police half an hour to respond.

"I came out and listened and then I heard a man screaming, crying, a wailing cry," she said.

Locals say the people at the house did not wear gang clothing but did have a lot of visitors and a vast collection of luxury cars and motorcycles.

"It's pretty scary like, but it can happen anywhere, you don't what you've got next door neighbour," one man said.

Neighbours say the house has been watched by police for months, with officers telling one local that the people being watched were involved in illegal activity and, although police could not arrest them, they were hanging around to annoy them.

"We actually ended up asking them, like are we in danger at all?" another woman said.

Authorities assured that resident that she was safe.

Police set up crime scene

Both men were shot several times and one of them was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other man was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg and stomach.

He remains in a serious condition.

Police have not released the ages of the two men and their relationship to each other is not known at this stage.

A crime scene has been established and detectives are interviewing neighbours.

Police will address the media later this morning.
