Newcastle Knights prop Russell Packer has spoken to police following an alleged assault in Sydney early on Saturday morning.

The Newcastle Herald reported the investigation centred around an incident in Martin Place in Sydney's CBD.

A New South Wales Police release said emergency services were called to the site of a fight at approximately 1.30 on Saturday morning.

A 22-year-old Summer Hill man was found unconscious. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to St. Vincent's Hospital for tests.

Packer is the latest NRL player to be involved in a scandal this week after Reni Maitua and Richie Fa'aoso both had run-ins with police.

The Knights said in a statement they will co-operate with the investigations by police and the NRL Integrity Unit but would not comment further until the matter was resolved.
