SYDNEY can expect more wet weather over the next few days but nothing like the tornado that left a trail of wreckage in the city's north.
The storm cell, confirmed as a tornado, left eight people in hospital on Monday after winds tore off roofing, toppled large trees, and blew a demountable building off its base onto a car in Hornsby.
It also caused a cinema ceiling to collapse at Hornsby's Westfield shopping centre, power black-outs, the closure of part of the Pacific Highway and disruptions to rail services.
It followed several days of rain across Sydney.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Olenka Rudewych said while Sydney was on Tuesday experiencing fine conditions, rain would probably return on Wednesday.
"There's also the chance of thunderstorms," she told AAP.
The rain, and possible thunderstorms, are likely to stick around until Sunday.
There was only a 20 per cent chance that any thunderstorms that hit Sydney would be severe, she said.
Meanwhile, the State Emergency Services (SES) said crews were still working to clear damage from the storm.
SES Spokeswoman Tanya Arginovski said the agency had cleared 94 per cent of jobs after receiving 1920 calls for help since Friday.
She said most of the outstanding jobs were on the state's mid-north coast, near Coffs Harbour, and in Hornsby,
A spokeswoman for Westfield Hornsby said most shops would be open for trade on Wednesday.
"The vast majority of retailers currently not trading now have access to their tenancies and are likely to trade from 9am tomorrow," spokeswoman Anita Sulentic said in a statement on Tuesday.
She did not know when Event Cinemas and Timezone would reopen.
