A man has been shot in the legs in what police have described as a targeted attack in Sydney's west.
It is not yet clear if the incident is linked to any gang activity, but the attack ends a lull of almost a fortnight in the city's wave of gun violence.
Emergency services were called to a home on Mona Street in Auburn about 6pm (AEDT) on Monday.
They found a 27-year-old man in the driveway who had been shot three times in the legs.
Inspector Craig Miller says it does not appear to have been a random attack.
"Although it's early in the investigation it appears the shooting is targeted," Inspector Miller said.
"He's been shot at least three times. He has two wounds to his right leg and one to his left."
Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
Police are looking for a man they believe can assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, with a thin build, short black hair and a full beard.
The man was last seen wearing a navy blue hooded jumped and black tracksuit pants.
About four hours after the Auburn attack shots were fired into a home at Minto in Sydney's south-west.
No-one was injured and police believe it was also a targetted shooting.
There is no indication that the shootings are linked.
Gun crimes in Sydney has virtually stopped in the past fortnight as police have cracked down on the Brothers 4 Life street gang.
At least a dozen alleged members of the gang have been charged over what police have described as an internal feud within the gang.
