Now, phenomenal footage has been unveiled showing a quadrocopter crashing into the Sydney icon last month, sparking a counter-terrorism investigation.
The drone was launched by British man Edward Prescott on October 3, and after crashing into the bridge and landing on the train line, led to a major investigation by police and air safety authorities
The video, which was uploaded by Mr Prescott to YouTube , shows the drone hovering high above the city before gradually losing control and flying through and then into the bridge.
With the camera still rolling, the drone lands on a railway line forcing an oncoming train to pull up stops.
The driver can then be seen and heard jumping out of the train before heading back inside to report his find on the radio: "It's an odd looking plane, it's got a red light flashing, I don't know whether it’s a bomb or not."
Pulling up at the train station the driver then hands it to confused Sydney Trains workers who ended up transporting the drone to another Sydney office.
Mr Prescott, who was in Sydney as part of the support crew for singer Rihanna's Australia tour, abandoned all hope of getting his hands back on the drone until he read about a "mystery drone" in the news.
"Imagine my surprise when the results of the internet search came back with a plethora of media sites from around the world carrying a story about a 'mystery drone', counter-terrorism investigation and a police hunt for the owner," Mr Prescott was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald .
"Needless to say I contacted the aviation authorities and Sydney police immediately," he said.
At the end of the video, Mr Prescott credits the "level-headed NSW Police for returning my property".
But the saga may not be over just yet, with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority still yet to decide what action, if any, to take over the incident.
