Western Sydney drug ring cracked, six charged - Sydney Morning Herald

Six men have been charged after police cracked a drug supply syndicate they say operated in western Sydney.

The men, aged 21 to 52, were arrested during raids on several premises in Smithfield on Friday.

It followed a joint investigation from Penrith and Wetherill Park police into the supply of the drug ice in the region.

Officers seized a .22 Winchester brand rifle, a flint lock pistol, bags filled with cannabis, ammunition and handcuffs from one residence.

Two of the accused appeared at Parramatta bail court via video link on Saturday.

Benjamin Vella, 33, faced 15 drug supply charges.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Price.

He will appear at Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday, August 5.

Raymond Gama, 44, was charged with five drug supply offences.

He applied for bail but it was also denied.

The matter will be heard at Central Local Court on September 13.

Court documents show Gama sold ice in Smithfield on multiple occasions between February and April this year.

Police charged another man, 52, with several drug and firearm offences.

He was granted conditional bail and will face Fairfield Local Court on September 4.

Three men, aged 21, 25 and 29, received future court attendance notices for possessing illegal drugs.
