Pregnant woman stabbed in Sydney unit - Ninemsn

A pregnant woman has died after being stabbed in a unit block in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Neighbours heard screaming coming from the Maroubra apartment about 1am this morning, Nine News reports.

The 23-year-old woman died at the scene from a single stab wound to her chest, police said.

It is believed a man known to her is responsible for the murder, but he remains at large after a search from the police dog squad failed to find him.

A woman was escorted from the unit into a police car, but officers said she is a witness and not a suspect.

Specialist forensic officers are now examining the crime scene.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Eastern Beaches Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
