A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Sydney's east.
Forensic officers spent the morning scouring a unit in Maroubra after the 23-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the chest.
A 38-year-old man went into the local police station just after midday and is being interviewed by officers.
Earlier, police said the stabbing murder was not a random attack.
Superintendent Gavin Dengate said the woman was involved in an altercation with a man who was known to her.
Police will not reveal whether they have found the weapon but say the attack is not drug-related, gang-related or random.
