Two pedestrians were taken to hospital after they were injured in a crash involving two vehicles on a busy Sydney street.


A 47-year-old male pedestrian was struck on the head by a traffic control light that was knocked loose in the crash at the intersection of Cleveland and Shepherd streets in Darlington on Wednesday night.


A 23-year-old female pedestrian was struck by one of the vehicles that mounted the footpath on Cleveland Street, police say. She suffered a minor neck injury.


The drivers of the two vehicles were not injured in the crash.


Police are investigating the cause of the crash which occurred about 6.30pm. The drivers of both vehicles were breath-tested and returned negative readings, police say.


Paramedics took both pedestrians, who were listed as stable, to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.
