CONFIDENTIAL'S relationship radar went into overdrive yesterday as word spread that South Sydney Rabbitohs pin-up (and perennial bachelor) Sam Burgess was sighted cosying up to swim singleton Stephanie Rice at the unveiling of Adidas's new autumn-winter collection in Surry Hills.
The sporting duo would certainly make for a logical pair, given Rice's long history of dating footballers and Burgess's renowned eye for pretty girls.
However, the Bunnies enforcer set the record straight yesterday, saying that, while he did share a chat with the swimming glamazon, it was purely innocent.
"We hardly know each other," he told us.
Burgess also denied reports out of the UK that his mum Julie, who is set to relocate to Sydney on Christmas Eve, was the new woman in Russell Crowe's life.
British tabloid The Mirror claims the Burgess matriarch and Crowe are more than friends. However, Burgess yesterday denied any romance and insisted his mum and the Gladiator star were "just mates".
"It's not quite how the papers have made it out but they have been mates for a long time," he said.
