A SYDNEY jewellery store owner has apprehended a man who allegedly tried to rob his store armed with a replica pistol.
Shortly after 5pm (AEST) on Monday a man entered the store at Mosman, on the city's north shore, wearing a hooded jumper and allegedly pointed the gun in the owner's chest, police say.
The owner, a 35-year-old man, punched him in the face, causing him to run from the store.
He pursued the would-be robber and apprehended him, assisted by another local store owner.
Police arrived and arrested the 19-year-old man.
He was taken to North Sydney Police Station where he is expected to be charged with numerous offences including armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.
He will be refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court on Tuesday.
Police say they are pleased with the outcome of the incident, but they don't advise this course of action when confronted with a weapon.
