Sydney Harbour night swimmer fined - Ninemsn - Ninemsn

A man who went for a swim across Sydney Harbour in the middle of the night has copped a $250 fine.

Police say the man, 35, jumped a fence at The Rocks at 2am (AEDT) on Monday and began swimming north toward the middle of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Officers arrived shortly after and a message was broadcast to all vessels in the harbour, warning them the man was in the water.

The Redfern man was found later on the northern side of the harbour and taken back to The Rocks in a police boat.

He was treated for cuts in an ambulance before police fined him for obstructing or impeding the navigation of a vessel.
