Sydney clearways 'half-baked', says oppn - Ninemsn - Ninemsn

NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson says the government's plan to create clearways to ease Sydney's weekend congestion woes is "half-baked".

There is no doubt traffic congestion is getting worse in Sydney, but clearways alone won't fix it, Mr Robertson says.

"We're two years into the O'Farrell government and we've still not seen congestion fixed," he told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.

"While this is an idea that is worth looking at, it's only a half-baked solution unless you do something to fix public transport on weekends."

Mr Robertson said Sydneysiders were choosing to use their cars for weekend activities such as dropping the kids off at sport because trains and buses simply aren't offering frequent services.

"This is a re-announcement of something that was announced two years ago ... we need more than just clearways," he said.

"We need businesses to be consulted about what the impacts will be for them.

"There are councils right across Sydney trying to make it easier for people to park outside businesses on our streets, and the government, as far as I am aware, has not consulted with businesses or these councils."
