Musicians are taking to the stage to celebrate Rita MacNeil’s life.

The tribute will be held May 6 at Centre 200 in Sydney.

Joella Foulds and Max MacDonald, longtime friends of MacNeil’s, are organizing the event, called Home I’ll Be: Remembering Rita.

The two are keeping the show’s lineup a secret.

“In Rita’s own words, that’s part of the mystery,” Foulds and MacDonald said in a release.

Tickets are $10 with all proceeds going toward a scholarship in MacNeil’s name. The scholarship will be for students participating in the new music degree program at Cape Breton University.

“This is a fitting legacy for Rita who was such a strong supporter of young people and of our musical traditions in Cape Breton,” the organizers said in the release.

All of the artists are performing without charge and community volunteers are offering their services for the event.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Monday and will be available at Centre 200 and the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop in Sydney, the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, the Emera Centre in North Sydney and the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
