Man killed then dumped in Sydney street - Yahoo!7 News

A man whose body was found wrapped in a sheet with hands bound was dumped in a suburban Sydney street after he was killed somewhere else, police say.

A homicide investigation is under way after police were called to a Bankstown street in the city's southwest at 11.25pm (AEST) on Wednesday to find the body.

Superintendent David Eardley of Bankstown police told reporters on Thursday that earlier reports the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head were incorrect.

But he confirmed the man's hands were bound behind his back and he was wrapped in a bed sheet.

Supt Eardley said it was hoped a post mortem examination under way would identify the man and the cause of his death and help identify who may have killed him.

He said inquiries so far made it clear the man was not killed at the scene.

"It's clear to us that his body was dropped off at that location.

"We believe he was killed elsewhere."

Supt Eardley said there was no indication at this stage of bikie gang involvement but identifying the man would help police establish why he might have been killed.

He appealed for information from the community to help solve the crime.

"Someone in the community must know what has happened to this person."

Supt Eardley said a recent spate of shootings in Sydney's southwest had not been random but were targeted at individuals.

"It's indicative of the lengths that certain criminals will go to pursue and further their criminal enterprise.

"That's why we are so committed to try and bring these people to justice."
