BERNARD Tomic has confirmed he will defend his breakthrough Sydney International tennis title.
Argentina's world No. 5 Juan Martin Del Potro and Poland's rising star Jerzy Janowicz have also been added to the starters list for the tournament at Sydney Olympic Park from January 5-11.
Tomic's three-set win over South African Kevin Anderson in last year's final earned the 21-year-old his first and only ATP title victory.
"Winning Sydney really changed me and made me feel that I can win these tournaments," said Tomic in a statement on Sunday.
Del Potro will return to Sydney after missing the event lat year and following a strong 2013 season which included title wins in Basel, Tokyo, Washington and Rotterdam.
"I know the fans like when I hit my forehand really strong. I like to share moments with the crowd and in Sydney the fans create a great atmosphere for the players," said Del Potro.
Wimbledon semi-finalist and world No. 21 Janowicz is looking forward to competing the Sydney event for the first time.
"I think Sydney will be really good preparation for the Australian Open, first of all because the weather is really warm there, like in Melbourne and the time difference is exactly the same," Janowicz said.
