SEVERE fire danger conditions are tipped for Sydney, with hot, dry and windy weather forecast across the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has forecast temperatures above 30 degrees in Sydney's west on Friday, with a chance of thunderstorms later in the day.
A total fire ban is in place for Greater Sydney and a severe fire danger rating has been issued for the region, while fire danger is rated "very high" in the Blue Mountains, Gosford and Wyong, the RFS says.
The fire ban in Sydney will end at midnight.
RFS spokesman Brendan Doyle urged residents across the state to stay vigilant.
"No fires are to be lit in the open," he told Macquarie Radio.
"We're asking residents to be our eyes and ears out there, if they see fire without a fire truck in attendance to contact triple zero immediately."
