A man has been stabbed to death and a woman injured when an intruder forced his way into their apartment in Sydney's east.
A concerned neighbour called police to the unit block in Mona Road at Darling Point at 11.10am on Monday.
Police believe a couple were inside their apartment when a man forced his way inside.
A fight broke out in which the male resident, believed to have been aged in his 30s, was stabbed multiple times.
The intruder then fled.
Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards but the man was unconscious and not breathing. He could not be revived.
The woman was also hurt but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police have set up a crime scene on Mona Road and are examining the area.
A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed that there had been a stabbing in Darling Point and one person was dead.
