Teen accused of lighting five Sydney fires - Ninemsn

A teenager has been charged with lighting five fires in western Sydney, just as the state's bushfire crisis was winding down.

The 13-year-old boy was allegedly accompanied by a 15-year-old and a 24-year-old man when he lit five fires with a cigarette lighter on Thursday, police say.

It's alleged a fire was lit at Airds, two at Bradbury and two at Campbelltown between 9.30pm and 11.30pm (AEDT), police say.

NSW Fire and Rescue officers attended to the fire at Airds and a fire at Bradbury, extinguishing them a short time later.

About 45 square metres of bushland and grass was burnt.

Police attended each scene and with help from the public arrested the boy at Campbelltown.

He has been charged with two counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless to its spread and three counts of maliciously damaging property by fire.

He was refused bail and will appear in children's court on Friday.

The accompanying man and teenager were released, pending further inquiries.
