IT'S a massive day in the A-League, with reigning champion Central Coast Mariners hosting Adelaide United before a mouthwatering Sydney derby.

MATCH CENTRE: MARINERS v UNITED

MATCH CENTRE: SYDNEY FC v WANDERERS

6.22pm - Mariners take control

HALF-TIME: The Mariners look in complete control leading into the break, although Nick Fitzgerald should really have a double after crashing his shot into the crossbar from just six yards out late in the half. Mariners 1-0 United.

5.58pm - Contrasting styles take hold

ADELAIDE United have started to dominate possession in the Barcelona style but much of it has been in their own half and the Mariners are looking very dangerous when the ball is turned over. Marcos Flores the latest to have a shooting chance.

5.38pm - Mariners get dream start

YOUNG midfielder Nick Fitzgerald scores a cracking long range goal in just the second minute of play to get the Mariners off to a dream start at Bluetongue Stadium. Mariners 1-0 United.

The Mariners will be looking for their first win of the season when they host a United side that has adjusted beautifully to the game plan being implemented by the Barcelona-schooled Josep Gombau.

And that's just the appetiser.

The main meal is undoubtedly a Sydney derby set to be played out in front of a sold out Allianz Stadium. Sydney FC looking to hit back from last week's embarrassing defeat, perhaps without Alessandro Del Piero, while the Wanderers are still yet to notch a win in the hotly contested new season.
