Fire ban in place for Greater Sydney region - ABC Local

Updated October 06, 2013 09:15:24

A total fire ban is in force for the Greater Sydney region today.

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) says no fire can be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.

Hot conditions are forecast, with temperatures expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius in Sydney's west.

The ban covers all Sydney metro councils, the Blue Mountains, Gosford, Hawkesbury and Wyong.

Inspector Ben Shepard from the RFS says it is especially important that long-weekend revellers are aware of the ban.

"Gas and electric barbeques are okay on residential properties or in designated areas in parks or forests," he said.

"However, if you are camping, that fire should be extinguished now, if you are in a total fire ban area."
