A serious three-car smash in western Sydney has sent nine people to hospital, including two with serious internal injuries.
Witnesses have told police a Toyota Corolla sedan and a Nissan X-trail were both travelling west on busy Victoria Road at Rydalmere when they collided about 10.15pm (AEST) on Saturday.
The Toyota hit a power pole while the Nissan was pushed into oncoming traffic and hit a Hyundai Tucson near the intersection of Myrtle Street.
The 30-year-old driver of the Toyota and his two passengers, a 30-year-old Parramatta man and a 33-year-old Auburn woman, were taken to Westmead Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Four people in the Nissan were taken to the same hospital, including a couple aged in their 60s, who were described on Sunday as being in a serious condition with internal injuries.
The Hyundai driver, a 20-year-old Newington man, and his front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, also from Newington, were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Victoria Road was closed for three-and-a-half hours while the scene was examined and the power pole replaced.
The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit has appealed for witnesses to the events leading up to the impact to come forward.
Earlier on Saturday, a motorcycle rider was killed after he was hit by three cars in northern NSW.
Police say a motorcycle and car collided as the motorcycle was turning on to the Pacific Highway at South Grafton about 7pm (AEST).
Two other vehicles are believed to have struck the motorcyclist after the initial collision.
The rider, who has not yet been formally identified, died at the scene.
