Anthony Weiner 'sexting' scandal: Sydney Leathers tells Democrat politician to ... - Telegraph.co.uk

Miss Leathers, a college student who said she never met Mr Weiner, said the relationship "started to fizzle out" and that he became "controlling towards the end". "He looked at my Facebook page and told me that he'd get jealous if other men complemented me."

She said that she came to view him a "a fraud" as he gave interviews with Miss Abedin portraying himself as a changed man, even as he had been "sexting" with her.

In tears, she made her apology to Miss Abedin. "I am extremely sorry for my part in the hurt and pain that she's obviously feeling right now," said Miss Leathers, who reportedly has an agent and plans to write a tell-all book.

"It's embarrassing but it was how I felt at the time, and how he felt at the time."

In a remarkable revelation about his political judgment, Miss Leathers said that Mr Weiner even consulted her before deciding to run for mayor during their online chats that veered from sex top politics.

The least surprising news of the day was the first opinion poll of mayoral candidates since the scandal erupted. The former front-runner slumped from first place to a distant second, with 16 per cent backing, while his favourability rating collapsed from 52 per cent to 30 per cent.

Mr Weiner, who has insisted so far that he will not quit the race, disclosed the latest count of his online liaisons at a campaign appearance at a Brooklyn soup kitchen.

"It's not dozens and dozens," he said. "It's six to ten, I suppose, but I can't tell you absolutely what people are going to consider inappropriate or not."

Pressed on how occurred after his resignation, Mr Weiner said, "I don't believe I had any more than three." He said that he was not sure if some of the other women might also come forward.

Miss Abedin, a close aide to Hillary Clinton, was "furious" and almost left him when he admitted last year that had again been indulging in such conduct, friends said. But she decided to stay for the sake of their son, with whom she was pregnant when the first scandal erupted.
