Teen shot in leg at Sydney party - Ninemsn

June 15, 2013: An 18th birthday party ended in shocking circumstances in Sydney after a partygoer was shot in the leg.

Up to seven men are on the run after gatecrashing an 18th birthday party and shooting a young guest in Sydney's southwest.

The 18-year-old man was shot in the leg outside a house on Grainger Avenue, Mount Pritchard, just after midnight (AEST) on Saturday.

Police superintendent Wayne Murray said the party of up to 50 guests was under control until a fight broke out with a group of gatecrashers earlier in the night.

The gun was fired by a second group of gatecrashers, who may have been recruited from the first group of party crashers.

"The five or seven persons of interest have been described as males, 17 to 18 years old, Asian, Middle Eastern and also Pacific Islander in appearance," Supt Murray told reporters on Saturday.

The men ran down Grainger Avenue and fled the scene by getting into several cars, he said.

The young victim, who was taken to Liverpool Hospital with a wound to his right thigh, was undergoing surgery on Saturday.

Police said the injury was not life-threatening and police were yet to speak with him.

No arrests or charges had been laid and police said they were looking for more witnesses.
