Police are looking for a group of teenagers who are believed to have gatecrashed a party and shot another teenager in Sydney's south-west overnight.

Around midnight AEST a group of men arrived at a house where a private party was being held on Grainger Avenue at Mount Pritchard.

The men became involved in an argument with a number of guests after being refused entry, and an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg.

Superintendent Wayne Murray says the gatecrashers then fled the scene.

"The injured man is being treated in hospital and is in a stable condition," he said.

Police say there were around 50 guests at the party and the hosts had acted responsibly.
