Carlton opened up with a six-goal first quarter and the home side was never headed.
The Blues had nearly twice the number of forward-50 entries as their opponents, with Andrew Walker (34), Mitch Robinson (29) and Bryce Gibbs (28) leading the possession count.
The Giants were under pressure at the back all day with Garlett aided by a string of forward options including Chris Yarran and Jarrad Waite (three goals each).
Carlton led by 22 points after one quarter, by 41 at the main break, and then kicked six goals without reply in the third quarter to set up a percentage-boosting win.
Jeremy Cameron and Stephen Coniglio kicked two goals each for the visitors, who remain winless for the season.
More to follow.

Wet conditions in Adelaide made things difficult for goalkickers but the Dockers held off the home side in a frantic final quarter to clinch a 10.6 (66) to 8.11 (59) victory.

The home side was ahead in most statistical categories including clearances, inside 50s and contested possessions, but the Crows missed vital shots that could have kicked them clear.
The Crows briefly hit the front again in the final term but goals to Michael Barlow and Cameron Sutcliffe were enough to put the visitors ahead for good.
Adelaide was unable to reproduce the heroics of last week when the team came from five goals down to defeat North Melbourne by a point.
Adelaide forward Jason Porplyzia told Grandstand that Fremantle had been a tougher nut to crack.
"We pegged them back there and when Danger (Patrick Dangerfield) kicked that goal we thought we might be able to bottle it up and get away with another really good win," Porplyzia said.
"But to Fremantle's credit, they were too strong in the end and deserved the win.
"We all know they (Fremantle) are well drilled, and well structured and disciplined - it's easier to make up five goals (at Docklands) than it is to make up one in the wet and the slop (at Football Park)."
Fremantle defender Michael Johnson told Grandstand that the win was an important result heading into the Dockers' bye week.
"We knew if we could get over the line today and have a good rest (it would be beneficial)," he said.
"It was a gutsy win by the boys.
"We know that if we end up in this position against another opposition team, we know that we can go to the end of the line."
There was controversy midway through the final term with a three-minute wait for the video replay to determine that a shot for goal by Dangerfield had shaved the post.
Dangerfield kicked three for the Crows, while Nick Suban was the only multiple goalkicker for the Dockers with two.
The win takes the Dockers up to third spot on the ladder, while Adelaide drops out of the eight.
Fremantle: 10.6 (66) - N Suban 2, H Crozier, H Ballantyne, T Mzungu, N Fyfe, C Mayne, Z Clarke, M Barlow, Cameron Sutcliffe
Adelaide: 8.11 (59) - P Dangerfield 3, J Petrenko, J Jenkins, R Laird, J Porplyzia, R Douglas
