Sydney woman catches robber with chair - The Australian

A 68-year-old woman got the better of a robber she caught rummaging through her fridge when she trapped him under a chair and stood on it until police arrived.

The man had allegedly broken into her home and tried to steal alcohol and a television early this morning.

The woman was woken by the sound of her fridge door opening in her Greenwich home on Sydney's lower north shore just after 1am, police say.

When she found him crouched down and going through the fridge she placed the chair on top of him and stood on it, preventing him leaving the scene.

The woman's husband called police who arrested the 21-year-old man.

He was charged with aggravated break and enter, and committing a serious indictable offence.

He has been granted bail and is due to appear in Hornsby Local Court on May 15.
