SYDNEY FC will try to persuade Terry Antonis to stay at the club for another year despite confirming that the Young Socceroo is poised to head to Holland for a trial with Utrecht.

As News Limited revealed a fortnight ago, the two-week audition is with a view to a permanent move in which Antonis would join fellow Australians Tommy Oar, Adam Sarota and Michael Zullo.

On the day sports scientist Craig Duncan also departed the club, Sydney CEO Tony Pignata confirmed Utrecht had suggested dates for Antonis's trial, although he said no fee had been discussed.

A clause in Antonis's contract allows him to explore overseas opportunities. Sydney would be due a reasonable transfer fee if he departs.

"We have had contact with Utrecht and now I need to sit down with Terry to discuss details," Pignata said. "It's a big year for him, with the U20 World Cup, so we've got to make sure that he's happy with it all and that he goes at the right time. We'll see if this is what he wants to do, especially after he had such a strong end to the season under Frank Farina."

Duncan's exit comes as Frank Farina begins a root and branch review of Sydney's disappointing season, with the former Sydney University academic announcing on Twitter he had decided to move on.

Farina has told players contract decisions would be made before they left for annual leave at the end of the month. Socceroo captain Lucas Neill's guest stint has finished, while seven others, including Adam Griffiths and Tiago Calvano, are coming to the end of their deals.
