Homicide cops probe Sydney woman's death - Courier Mail

FAMILY and friends are mourning the death of Sydney financier Kate Malonyay, as the homicide squad begins to investigate the case.

Officers found the 32-year-old at her Mosman home on Monday morning and are treating her death as suspicious.

Colleagues and friends raised the alarm when Ms Malonyay failed to turn up to work at the Challenger Financial Services group on Monday.

It's believed she may have been dead for several days before officers discovered her body.

The popular staff member had worked at the company for three years, Challenger chief executive Brian Benari said.

Ms Malonyay's friends and colleagues were "deeply shocked and saddened by the news of her passing," he told Fairfax Media.

Ms Malonyay, who grew up at Avoca Beach on the Central Coast, had moved to Sydney for work.

Her mother is understood to have arrived in Sydney on Monday to identify her body while her brother, who teaches in Spain, was flying home, News Limited reported.

Friends took to Facebook to express their grief.

"Can't stop tearing up thinking I won't get the chance to tell you how much I love you and how very special you are to me - preying (sic) this horrid news is wrong," one friend, Kane, wrote in a tribute.

A police spokeswoman said the homicide squad was working with local police and could take charge of the case.

A post-mortem examination would be carried out to determine how Ms Malonyay had died, police said.

Ms Malonyay had suffered "some bruising," police said later.
