Police hail bikie raids as suspects face court - ABC Online

Police say they have wiped out three major gun and drug supply networks after yesterday's sweeping raids across New South Wales.

The raids started at dawn and continued well into the night in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Hunter.

Nineteen people have been charged, mostly with supplying guns and drugs.

Six faced court yesterday, including Hells Angels bosses Felix Lyle and Kemel "Blackie" Barakat, who were refused bail.

Alleged Balkan underworld boss George Bubanja was granted bail in Wollongong, but failed to meet the strict conditions to be released.

Police say they have dismantled his drug network, as well as two major gun supply syndicates with links to Asia.

The alleged boss of one of those will be among 13 people facing court today, along with another alleged Balkan crime figure accused of selling four sticks of explosives to fuel a brewing bikie war.

The police raids followed a covert two year investigation by police and the NSW Crime Commission into the supply of guns, drugs and explosives to organised crime groups.

Two clandestine drug laboratories were also uncovered during the raids in Sydney, as well as the drug ice, heroin and more than $200,000.

Police say more arrests are likely over the coming days and weeks.
