14 arrested in Sydney crime crackdown - ABC Online

Fourteen people have been arrested in Sydney over the weekend as part of a police operation to prevent shootings in public places.

Officers working under Operation Apollo checked bail compliance, visited licensed venues and patrolled crime hotspots across the city.

Those arrested have been charged with offences such as breaching bail, drug possession, drink driving and traffic infringements.

Operation Apollo Commander, Detective Chief Superintendent Mal Lanyon, says more than 150 officers were involved.

"This is about police being highly-visible, about stopping and speaking with people in key hotspots and putting pressure on those we suspect of criminal activity," he said.

"It was intelligence-driven, but also valuable in terms of gathering further intelligence to assist in our investigations and, of course, planning future operations.

"The weekend's activities complement the ongoing high-impact, proactive patrols being conducted by Operation Apollo, along with the intelligence and investigative strategies in place."

Police say more than 100 people have been arrested since Operation Apollo was launched last month.

More than 60 guns have also been seized.
