Sydney fire victim could be homeless man - Yahoo!7 News

Police believe a body found at a house fire in Sydney's east may be that of a homeless man.

Firefighters extinguished a blaze at what's believed to be a house under construction in Woollahra early on Monday morning.

Police arrived about 3.30am (AEST) and found a body in the garage.

A police spokesman told AAP "the body is in such a bad way" that authorities have yet to confirm whether the victim is male or female.

However, Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald says they are investigating whether it may be a homeless man.

"Due to the cold conditions we do get a lot of homeless people staying in these vacant premises," he told Macquarie Radio.

A crime scene has been established and specialist forensics officers have been called in.
