SOUTH Sydney's quest for the minor premiership and Greg Inglis's chase of the Dally M Medal may have been dealt a blow by State of Origin.
Inglis suffered a knee injury in Queensland's win over NSW last night and may not play again until the finals series.
The injury is a bitter blow to the Rabbitohs, who are on top of the table and on course for their first minor premiership since 1989.
Coach Michael Maguire has options at fullback, the most likely being Nathan Merritt. But no-one can replace the match-winning ability of Inglis.
On a personal note, the injury ends any chance Inglis had of winning the Dally M medal. The Maroons superstar was among the front-runners when the voting went behind closed doors.
Queensland doctor Roy Saunders confirmed Inglis had suffered posterior cruciate damage to his left knee.
"It is much the same injury that Billy (Slater) had last year," Saunders told reporters after the match.
"He made the final call on continuing to play. He could be out anywhere from four to eight weeks."
