ONE man is dead and another injured after a drive-by shooting in Sydney's south east last tonight, police have confirmed.
It is believed the 35-year-old was standing with a "handful" of other men in front of an apartment block on George Street, Eastlakes, when the alleged offender drove past and fired several shots into the group.
A spokeswoman for the NSW Police confirmed one man was killed about 9.50pm and another rushed to hospital suffering at least one gunshot wound.
The heavily tattooed victim was rushed to RPA hospital by paramedics with gunshot wounds to his legs.
The investigation will now be passed over to the State Crime Command.
Witnesses told The Daily Telegraph they heard a series of loud gunshots ringing out around the neighbourhood.
"I think everyone in the area heard," a male witness said.
"It was going off, very loud."
The witness asked if the shooting was "bikie related" before making a mobile phone call and telling the person on the other end "I think it was one of the boys."
A black Mercedes four wheel drive was seen speeding from the scene shortly after an ambulance which was carrying one of the victims.
Dozens of emergency services vehicles were in attendance and police were forced to close George Street for hours.
Confused residents piled onto the street, with one saying: "This used to be a safe area.
"I heard these sirens and then five or six ambulances rushed down the road...it's frightening."
