Man charged over Sydney bus stop attack was on parole for murder - Yahoo!7 News

A man who was charged with attacking a woman at a Sydney bus stop and assaulting a police officer was on parole for a 1990s murder.

It's believed the 46-year-old murdered a teenage girl in 1990.

A 30-year-old woman was sitting at a Hunters Hill bus stop around 6.10pm (AEST) on Wednesday when a man allegedly grabbed her, forced her to the ground and attempted to undress her, police say.

They allege the man then punched her in the face and torso.

The woman screamed for help before allegedly being stabbed in the shoulder with a pocket knife.

A passing motorist called police who were there within minutes.

Officers chased the man for two blocks before using capsicum spray and a Taser to arrest him.

A probationary constable sustained facial injuries after allegedly being assaulted.

The woman remains in Royal North Shore Hospital with a punctured lung, fractured cheekbone and bruising.

The 46-year-old man was charged with inflicting actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse, reckless wounding and assault police causing actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.

The attack came just hours after Adrian Bayley was jailed for raping and murdering Melbourne woman Jill Meagher while on parole.
