1/2 TIME: Sydney 39 lead Carlton 11
PUT simply, it was miserable.
And it only got worse when the field umpire penalised Sydney defender Nick Malceski for a deliberate rushed behind close to half time.
Malceski was confronted in the goal mouth and forced back in an attempted tackle by Blues youngster Josh Bootsma.
The umpire intervened awarding a free kick to Bootsma who kicked the Blues first goal of the match.
But the damage was done with Sydney leading 39-11 at the main change.
Swans recruit Kurt Tippett thrived in the wet conditions kicking the first goal of the second quarter - at the 21 minute mark.
Ryan O'Keefe was the pick of the Swans racking up 18 disposals along with Craig Bird.
Chris Judd, Bryce Gibbs and Kade Simpson were the stand outs for the Blues.
1/4 TIME: Sydney 30 lead Carlton 3
SYDNEY veteran Jude Bolton sparked a Swans frenzy to put Carlton on the backfoot at the SCG.
The Swans-Blues played out a goalless seven minutes before Bolton burst out of a stoppage to break the drought.
The goal sparked a rush with Mike Pyke, Luke Parker and Kurt Tippett splitting the middle to set up the 30-3 lead.
Swans Craig Bird, Ryan O'Keefe and Josh Kennedy were among the more prolific ball winners while utility Andrew Walker leads the Blues with 10 disposals.
PRE-GAME
CARLTON speedster Chris Yarran finds himself in familiar territory starting as the Blues substitute for tonight's match against Sydney.
Yarran was dumped for poor body language after being handed the green vest for the Blues blockbuster against Essendon.
Yarran turned his fortunes around starring for the Northern Bullants a fortnight ago.
Sydney was forced to make a very late change with Mitch Morton (quad) out of the match.
Morton experienced tightness in his quads during the warm up.
Swans defender Ted Richards' younger brother, Xavier, replaces Morton and will start as the substitute in his first AFL game.
