Supporters of Palestine will stage a protest march through Sydney on the 65th anniversary of the creation of Israel.
Many Palestinians say their land was stolen and half the their population driven from their homes with the foundation of Israel.
Former US President Harry Truman recognised Israel on May 14 1948.
Palestinians refer to that day as the Nakba or "the catastrophe".
"The Nakba is not simply an historical event," protest organiser Lutfi Zayed said in a statement.
"It is an ongoing process of genocide and of the construction of an apartheid state."
The Sydney rally, starting at Town Hall at 6pm (AEST) on Wednesday, is one of a number of protests around the world, Mr Zayed said.
Police have warned the protest could cause "extensive" disruption to peak hour traffic
Motorists are urged to avoid the CBD between 5pm and 7pm.
