THE first Pottery Barn outside of the US opened its doors at Bondi Junction on Thursday morning.
Premier Barry O'Farrell cut the official ribbon, for an event he described as a "huge vote of confidence in Sydney and our retail sector".
The home furnishings store opened alongside three other shopfronts, Williams-Sonoma, West Elm and Pottery Barn Kids.
The four are all owned by parent company Williams-Sonoma.
Australian general manager Pennie Rende said the custom-designed building on Oxford St Mall provided them with the opportunity to house all four stores in the one place for the first time.
"It's exciting in so many ways for our company,'' she said.
Pottery Barn, West Elm and Pottery Barn Kids are all home furnishings stores, while Williams-Sonoma sells products for the kitchen and the home chef.
Ms Rende said they did not have a specific target market.
"Not matter who you are or what you do, people have a love for the home, a love for entertaining, a love for family, a love for food, and that's really what we provide," she said.
"I'm not sure who doesn't fit into that category."
Ms Rende said the company was not concerned about the recent downward trend of retail in favour of the online market.
"Store experience is very important to us and we believe this will be something else that will really set our brands apart from anything else in the market," she said.
Ms Rende said the stores would frequently offer food tastings and "unique experiences where people can try our products".
More than 100 jobs have been created through the opening of the four stores.
