A man charged over a fire that badly damaged a strip club in Sydney's Kings Cross is due to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.


The 25-year-old man from Gymea is charged with destroying property by fire, robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.


Firefighters and police were called to The Love Machine on Darlinghurst Road in the early hours of Thursday morning to find the upstairs section of the club on fire.


The building and a nearby residential unit were evacuated due to the fire.


A 67-year-old woman has also come forward, claiming she was strangled, punched, and kicked by a man claiming he was going to set the place alight.
