A Bowral man has been charged with murder after a man's body was discovered in a south Sydney unit.
An alleged murder victim whose body was found in a south Sydney home this week was known to police.
Officers on Thursday made the grisly discovery at a unit on Victoria Avenue, Penshurst, after receiving reports that raised concern for the 49-year-old man's welfare.
A senior police source has told AAP a man from Bowral, in the NSW southern highlands, arranged to meet with local officers following a joint investigation between the homicide squad and Hurstville Local Area Command.
The man, 34, was arrested and charged with murder at Bowral Police Station on Saturday.
The source told AAP the dead man was known to police and it will be alleged he knew his accused killer.
Police have recovered a weapon they believe was used in an assault on the dead man.
The accused is expected to appear in bail court on Sunday.
