POLICE are appealing for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a Sydney woman with critical head injuries to hand himself in.

A white, older model Ford or Holden station wagon is believed to have struck the 25-year-old woman on St Johns Road, Cabramatta West around 1.30am (AEST) on Sunday, police say.

The woman was carried on the bonnet of the car for a short distance.

The victim lives on the street where the incident occurred, and it was allegedly witnessed by friends and family.

Witnesses have told police that a man was driving the vehicle and he had at least two passengers.

The woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital and remains in intensive care in a stable condition.
