Sydney siege man in court - The Australian

A MAN arrested after an inner city siege has appeared in a Sydney court.

Phillip John Amey, 36, of Surry Hills, is facing one count of assault arising from a dispute that allegedly occurred before the one-and-a-half hour stand-off with police in Surry Hills.

Devonshire Street was forced into lock-down near a housing commission block on March 27 after reports a man who had threatened another man with a gun was holed up inside.

Armed police were eventually able to gain access into the property and arrest Amey.

Amey said little during his brief appearance at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, where his bail was continued.

The prosecution asked for a two-week adjournment so further investigations could be carried out.

The matter will return to court on May 2.
