Man charged over Sydney counterfeit DVDs - The Australian

A MAN was allegedly trying to leave Australia when he was arrested over a multi-million dollar counterfeit DVD bust in western Sydney, police say.

Quakers Hill police working with other government agencies searched two premises in Marayong earlier this month, allegedly seizing 1.2 million counterfeit DVDs of movies and TV show box sets.

Other equipment was also seized for forensic examination.

A further search at a storage unit at Kings Park on Friday allegedly netted 95,000 counterfeit DVDs.

About 9.30am (AEST) on Tuesday investigators were advised a 41-year-old man had been detained by Customs officers at Sydney International Airport attempting to board an overseas flight.

Police allege he had more than $15,000 cash in his possession in Australian currency, and also a quantity of foreign cash.

The man was arrested and later charged with a number of offences including possession of an infringed copy or work for commerce and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
