LUKE Nolen is known as a "quiet bloke" among the jockey fraternity but he has used fighting words to defend Black Caviar.
"She came to Sydney and kicked a---," Nolen said after her demolition of a quality field in the T.J. Smith in Sydney on Saturday.
"If there are any knockers still out there after that, come and see me and I'll sort them out!"
It was a conclusion to a fraught few days in NSW with some of its residents, including Premier Barry O'Farrell, not overly in awe of the equine megastar.
They'll have changed their tune now no doubt.
Suggestions Black Caviar had been getting it easy in "walk and trot" affairs in Melbourne were rubbished by an explosive demonstration of power sprinting.
Hay List is not at his best but he looked like a lamb as the black limousine cruised by. Best of all was seeing Nolen really push "Nelly" out, determined to silence the naysaysers.
Win No.25 from 25 meant a lot to Nolen.
It meant a lot to trainer Peter Moody, Black Caviar's owners and to all those who have never doubted her place as the greatest horse of our time.
Those who get to see her at the closest quarters - other race jockeys - are some of her biggest fans.
"It was good to see Black Caviar forced to do a bit in the run, the boys had a crack and she was still too good, full credit to her," Kerrin McEvoy, runner-up on Epaulette said.
Hugh Bowman, rider of Bel Sprinter, was in awe.
"It is hard when a horse like Bel Sprinter is trying their hardest and they get gapped, it can really break their heart," he said.
Rain Affair's rider Corey Brown tried to make use of his sprinter's natural speed but to no avail.
"I don't know who got more disappointed, me or the horse when Black Caviar went past us," Brown said.
"He just knew that he was beaten, he half gave up when she went past and that is unusual for him."
James McDonald rode Decision Time (sixth) and thought he had an ideal plan tracking into the race.
"We were on Black Caviar's back for a while then she just changed gear and went away from us so quickly it was like we were in quicksand."
