Sydney Airport (SYD.AU) said the volume of traffic through the airport in March was 3.5% higher than a year earlier, buoyed by Chinese nationals returning home after February Lunar New Year celebrations.
International traffic in the month was 6.0% higher, while domestic traffic grew by 2.3%.
A strong Australian dollar is encouraging more locals to travel abroad while discouraging travel into the country. On the other hand, a rapidly expanding middle class in emerging Asian economies such as China is encouraging more visitors.
Chinese traffic in March grew by 19%, Sydney Airport said.
