A man has been charged with 15 offences, including assaulting police, after he led them on a dangerous pursuit with a young child in the car in Sydney's west.

Officers began pursuing a stolen Honda Jazz after they spotted it at an intersection near the Great Western Highway in St Marys around 5.50pm last Thursday.

The chase was terminated a short time later because of safety reasons, police said on Saturday.

Officers began a second pursuit of the car as it travelled onto Boronia Rd, before the vehicle drove into the car park of a cricket oval and collided with a metal fence.

A fence pole pierced through the front passenger side windscreen and through the rear of the car, impaling the vehicle on the fence, police said.

The male driver then emerged from the car holding a six-year-old girl's hand.

When police tried to arrest the man, he allegedly violently resisted by punching officers and kicking them in the face.

Police said the man was taken to Nepean Hospital because it was believed he was on drugs.

The man later fled the hospital and officers found him in a villa he allegedly broke into through a rear window.

The man was arrested and charged with a number of offences including two counts of assault police, drive with child not restrained and police pursuit.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
