Good Samaritan bashed in CBD - Sydney Morning Herald

A good Samaritan who came to the aid of a drunk man lying on a footpath in Sydney's CBD was bashed in what police believe is a vicious random attack.

A 27-year-old Korean man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was punched repeatedly by two men early on Sunday morning.

Police said the 27-year-old, who lives in Eastwood, was walking along Pitt Street when he tried to help a drunk man who was lying on a footpath near the intersection with Goulburn Street.

A group of onlookers, including four men and a woman, were taking photographs of the man lying on the ground and the Korean man tried to help him, police said.

Police said the Korean man approached the onlookers, and two of the men turned on him.

He was punched in the face and fell to the ground. When he stood up, he was punched again and knocked unconscious, before the group of onlookers then ran south along Pitt Street.

The man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where he was in a critical condition on Monday morning.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the attack, and have appealed for public help to identify two of the men involved.

The first man was aged in his early 20s, about 183cm tall with a light complexion and a solid build. He had short dark hair and was wearing a grey or blue round neck T-shirt, dark pants and dark shoes.

The second man was aged in his late 20s, about 178cm tall, with a light complexion and a medium to solid build.

He had short dark hair and was wearing a black zip-up jacket, dark pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the attack should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, another 27-year-old man has been hospitalised after he was thrown out of a pub at Newtown on Saturday night.

The man was asked to leave and when he refused he allegedly got into an altercation with a security guard.

The man allegedly pushed the guard before he ended up hitting his head on the pavement.

He was taken to nearby Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

In a third incident, two men were robbed at Annandale early on Sunday.

An Italian man was punched in the face and a short time later a 28-year-old man suffered facial cuts as they were robbed by three males on Parramatta Road near Johnston Street.
