Macaws stolen in Sydney's west - Sky News Australia

Macaws stolen in Sydney's west

Two South American Macaws valued at $12,000 are among 10 birds stolen from a wildlife park in Sydney's west.

Police said a man broke into the Kildare Road park at Doonside late on Christmas Eve.

Investigators believe the man knew the park well and targeted the birds he wanted, cutting locks of selected aviaries with bolt cutters.

Two of the 10 birds taken are Blue and Yellow Macaws, male and female, valued at $6000 each.

Also taken were two Red-tailed Black Cockatoos valued at $1500 to $2000 each and six White-breasted Ground Doves.

All the birds are micro-chipped to help identify them.

The thief has been described as being middle aged and of Caucasian appearance, wearing shorts, a hooded jumper and baseball cap.

Police have urged anyone with information on the theft to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
