Living End stoke the home fires - Sydney Morning Herald - Sydney Morning Herald

The Living End have sold more than 8000 tickets for their Corner shows.

The Living End have sold more than 8000 tickets for their Corner shows.

MELBOURNE gave the Living End a warm homecoming on Tuesday night when they played the first of 11 shows at the Corner as part of their Retrospective Tour. The internationally successful rockabilly trio are in the final stretch of a 39-date tour of Australia, where they are playing at least seven shows in five major cities - performing one of their six studio albums, track for track from start to finish each night.

Almost every show sold out with an encore performance of their debut album from 1998, which reached No.1 on the ARIA albums chart and stayed in the top 50 for more than a year. Due to enormous demand, the self-titled album is getting five live performances at the Corner. Singer and guitarist Chris Cheney said during Tuesday's set that they filmed the video for Second Solution at the Corner 15 years ago.

Cheney formed the Living End with double bassist Scott Owen in 1994 after playing together in a high school Stray Cats tribute band, the Runaway Boys. Drummer Andy Strachan joined in 2002, replacing Travis Demsey. In 2011, the band added a fourth live member, Adrian Lombardi, on rhythm guitar. More than 8000 tickets have been sold for the band's Corner shows, which finish on December 22 with two performances, including an under-18s matinee gig. The first six Living End shows sold out in a couple of days and another five were added.

''It's fantastic, I'm a huge fan and have been since his early records,'' Barnes told Sticky. THE Billy Hyde music store in Flemington reopened this week under old management as GH Music. Garry Hyde is back at the helm after starting the Billy Hyde Drum Clinic 50 years ago in partnership with his late father Billy and cousin Barry Quinn. Garry Hyde sold the chain of Billy Hyde Music stores in 2007 before it merged with Allans. The embattled Allans Billy Hyde chain stores went into receivership this year. Con Gallin, managing director of Australian Musical Imports, has bought the bulk of Allans Billy Hyde assets (which doesn't include the Flemington store) after negotiating with receivers Ferrier Hodgson.
