Comanchero president Mark Buddle.
The boss of the Comanchero outlaw bikie gang, who has been at the centre of a national manhunt, was arrested on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
Mark Buddle, the 28-year-old national head of the Comancheros, was arrested after police were called to a domestic disturbance on Hope Island.
The Special Emergency Response Team in armoured vehicles was called in to arrest Mr Buddle and a 26-year-old alleged associate.
‘‘The second man, believed to be accompanying the 28-year-old, is also wanted by NSW Police for an incident relating to a public place shooting in Sydney in July 2012,’’ police said in a statement.
The pair will face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, where police will apply to have them extradited to NSW.
It’s alleged Mr Buddle fled New South Wales when a warrant was issued for his arrest last month after his cousin and fellow Comanchero John Devine was shot on a street in Rhodes, in Sydney’s inner-west. Mr Devine survived the attempt on his life.
The shooting occurred two days after 23-year-old junior Comanchero Faalau Pisu was killed outside a fellow gang member’s wedding in Canley Vale.
Mr Buddle took the reins of the Comancheros, which has chapters in Milperra and Maroubra, last year after then-national president Duax "Dax" Ngakuru fled the country.
Mr Ngakuru stepped up after former president Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi was jailed over the murder of Hells Angels associate Anthony Zervas in the infamous Sydney Airport brawl in 2009.
